The Civil War and African Americans has had opposing scholarship as broad and long as the time since the war has ended. Arguably, many of the most significant chapters in African American history emerged as a result of the close of the Civil War. There is a need for objective ongoing discourse and scholarship on the topics that undergird the Civil War as well as contemporary issues of tolerance and conflict that deserve attention.
